Cards of Mercy

The Cards of Mercy project is a program through the Restorative Justice Ministry that can be used in schools and Faith Formation classes.

What are Cards of Mercy?

Cards of Mercy are a way to reach out to those in prison with messages of kindness and love. Students are asked to prepare cards for holidays throughout the year, which will be delivered to incarcerated individuals.

Cards will be sent for the following holidays:

  • Easter
  • Mother’s Day
  • Father’s Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

This is part of the ministry to those in jails and prisons, aiding in the process of healing by reminding our brothers and sisters that they are loved. The cards will be given to incarcerated individuals regardless of their own personal faith background, as an expression of compassion to all.

This action is one way to live the Works of Mercy, particularly the call to visit the imprisoned. Through these letters, our incarcerated sisters and brothers letters, our incarcerated sisters and brothers will know that they are not forgotten and that God’s love and mercy extend to them.

“‘When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’

And the King will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'”

Matthew 25:39-40
